Something that every Italin student has made at least once in a lifetime…

Fare forca – or – forcare la scuola, is an Italian and mostly Tuscan expression meaning to skip school/not going to school.

It derives from the shape of the instrument to raise agricultural hay, which has only two teeth, compared to a junction where a road leads to the school. The sense of it is take the other 😉

Obviously, normally parents are not aware when a student decides to fare forca, therefore the symbol of all forcaioli (noun) is Pinocchio who lied to Geppetto in order to skip school..
